Technology is simply a means to an end; that end is empowerment.

What Deabute’s about

01 / OUR MISSION

Empowering the pursuit of liberty.

The goal is enabling ease of expression while respecting control of impressions. In other words, empowering connection, communication, organization, and information gathering without subjecting individuals to the cacophony of bullhorns that could follow such a thing.

The form of the solution should bear the same respect: hardware and software that buyers can own, potentially maintain themselves, and modify to suit their own ends.

02 / WHAT DEABUTE’S ABOUT

Principles and Values.

Start with the problem.

We presume problems remain more constant than the relevance of their solutions. A solution may be fashionable, but the problems it addresses are what remain relevant. Never resent a problem; it’s an opportunity for the next win.

Go to the source.

Why understand things indirectly? Go and see the real thing, and provide it for others to see whenever possible. Constrain solutions, support, and documentation to the point of contact with the problem as soon as possible. Else, you lose valuable context.

Invent the world the inventions exist in.

To truly invent the car, the salary to afford the car needed to be invented, and the workweek that gave a day to drive it also needed to be invented. That’s why it’s hard to blame people for thinking that Ford and Edison invented the car and the light bulb.

The solution flows to the problem.

The time it takes to use, build, and deliver the product should be divided as evenly as possible among its components and their stakeholders, as much as makes sense. For instance, it may not make sense for the time-to-objective user flow to take as long as packaging the product. But it does make sense for time-to-objective to have a standard duration among users, or for the packing step to be in line with assembly, with little interstitial queuing to support a continuous flow of the solution against the problem.

Intelligence is being right; wisdom is when it matters.

Intelligence is being able to build an outstanding product; wisdom is knowing who is going to use it.
